This section is a summary of the most important typographic rules, listed in ISO norms. The appearance of macros in formulas can furthermore be changed for single macros by setting the cursor in the macro and using the menu View ▷ (Un)fold Math Macro.
The formula appears in the output as defined in the first box.
But when you have created a macro that needs lot of space on the screen, you can insert in the box for example qG: \#1, \#2, \#3, \#4 For the macro only the arguments with the macro name in front of them will then be displayed in LyX, leading to a better overview. Normally you want to see it as it is defined, so the box is kept empty. In the second blue box the appearance of the macro in LyX can be defined. The first non-optional argument can be transformed to an optional one with the toolbar button Optional arguments are created with the toolbar button An argument placeholder is inserted with the command \#argumentnumber, e. g \#1 or by using the macro toolbar button The wanted formula is inserted in the first blue box. \newmacroname is the default name of the macro that should be changed to something sensible. The math macro toolbar appears together with the following box where the macro is defined: A math macro is created by using the menu Insert ▷ Math ▷ Macro or the toolbar button
